The multifaceted Carrie Jahn had her branding shoot this past July and we had SO! Much! Fun! Carrie and I have known each other for a couple years, performing with each other and each others significant others onstage at the various Comedy Stages in Sacramento. I was so grateful and flattered that she wanted me to be her photographer for her rebranding shoot. This former Middle and High School French teacher turned Small Business Owner has spent the last few years on a journey to discover the kind of teacher, artists, business owner she wants to be. WE think she’s on the right track and know theses images will help convey the kind of energy she wants to share with future clients!

I was able to get some really great answers from Carrie about her business and about her experience working with Lacey M. Carroll Photography!

What made you choose to collaborate with Lacey on your Personal Branding Images?

“Working with Lacey had been on my mind for about a year since I first admired her work and saw how well she captured people. Not in little jars, but on camera. I knew she would have unique insight and the skills to bring my vision to life. It was great that we had a lot of history doing improv together because when I explained that I wanted to incorporate my experience as an educator alongside my magical practice, she didn’t flinch. Being the consummate professional, Lacey knew exactly how to integrate all these aspects of myself into representative photos that I could use for lots of different media. So now I can clearly rebrand myself as the Magical Tarot Educator? (work in progress)”

Which look turned out to be your favorite?

“I felt so comfortable in my black jumpsuit at Capitol Park where we started the shoot. Lacey had the idea to use bamboo, a pollinator garden and various leaves as points of interest as I warmed up in front of the camera. It was fun to plop down in the middle of gorgeous plants with my Tarot cards and crystals as insects buzzed around me. If there was ever an image to use in the event of my untimely demise, me looking at peace in a garden surrounded by magical objects would be it. Make a note for my future obituarist. “

Of course we had to include these images that Carrie loves so much into this blog! We agree, this collection of images showcase her true spiritual self.

What did you envision your branding photoshoot would be like?

“Lacey offered a really professional and high quality experience, pulling in a local hair and makeup artist (Thanks, Mai!) as well as an assistant who is a mutual friend (Thanks, Carissa!). Mai Makeup Artistry created a natural look while we got to know each other and Carissa prepared clothing, organized equipment and refined logistics with Lacey. The day ran so smoothly and I felt truly seen and pampered. Starting the day early was a great idea, as was having a mid-morning snack plus photo opportunity. And thank Lacey’s forsight for ending the day in the air conditioned studio since the July heat in Sacramento is pretty unforgiving. Honestly, it was just a day of hanging out with friends who happened to be taking amazing pictures!”

Sacramento heat is no joke! We plan ahead and start early so our clients, Hair and Makeup artists, and Lacey can all recover in our air conditioned photo studio in Sacramento.

What was your favorite moment of the photoshoot?

“Lacey took some really special shots of me with my partner Tyler outside of the Sacramento Comedy Spot, since that’s where we met. It’s the place where I gained the skills, confidence and community that have helped me grow into a person who is willing to improvise my way through life. She told me later that the smile I had when I was with him was the biggest one I had all day. I like that our love will be juxtaposed with the Comedy Spot’s marquee sign for the month, “We put the nuts in Sac!” (Thanks, Brian!)”

Special shout to to Tyler as well! These two are deeply in love and I adored capturing these moments between them! Carrie is a multifaceted entrepreneur who also LOVES to make others laugh. She has started performing stand up comedy at various venues in Northern California, most notably at Sacramento Comedy Spot!

Was there anything you'd do differently if you got to do the photoshoot again?

“Now that I know Lacey’s creativity and professionalism knows no bounds, I would be more particular about certain shots and ask for specific direction in terms of my feeling. While I know the photos we got were stunning, I think the more focused I can get in evoking certain emotions associated with my business from the photos, the better they will be.”

Anything you'd like to be included in the blog post about you and your business?

“Since this was a rebranding shoot, it makes sense that my business, Empowering Educator, is going through some transitions over the next few months that may put us in a different place from what I outline here. I have been on quite a journey since starting out as a high school French teacher in 2008, teaching in various situations across the country, and finally choosing to leave the classroom in 2021. At first, I thought I would provide tutoring for students, then coaching for teachers, and now entertaining professional and personal development for conferences, workshops, faculty meetings and more. I see Empowering Educator offering magical, whimsical, and present moment practices through comedy, tarot and interviews that evoke joy, curiosity and fulfillment. It is the hope that through engaging, empathetic, and expansive experiences, educators will reconnect with themselves and their communities to create lasting change that ripples through the educational system.
