Quince Couture for Sofía | Teen Couture
Meet Sofía: An energetic, gorgeous girl taking the world by storm one dance competition at a time! I first met Sofía in 2021 when her and her mom reached out to me to schedule a Teen Couture Session. I love having Sofía in front of my camera because you can see her confident, positive, and fun self shine in every image!
I love how small the world can be sometimes… years ago I photographed her Tía Mikki, she had won a contest I was running on instagram in 2016, the headshot session was unforgettable, we had such a blast! Last year, unbeknownst to me, I commissioned an artist named Mari who is an amazing tattooer who owns Ladies Empowered Sacramento a women-owned and operated tattoo studio in midtown to create an art piece for “Chalk It Up” festival in Sacramento. Turns out she is ALSO Sofía’s Tia and recommended me to Sofía’s mom Norma!!
This Sacramento area Sophomore keeps her self busy and booked with interests in dance, fashion, make-up, shopping, skin care, art, baking, and cooking!
In case it isn’t obvious, Sofia is a competitive dancer in the Sacramento area. She needed headshots for her competitions so we started there styling this great blazer with some wide legged denim pants. Heather Grabin was with us for the photo session making sure Sofia had effortlessly perfect looking hair all day! There she is making a cameo in our blog post! Hey Heather! Elysa Qunitella was our beloved make up artist for this shoot and she really made Sofia look amazing. She has many shots to choose from to use for her headshots now!
We then moved to a shady spot along the American River Bike Trail to photograph Sofia’s spectacular Quinceñera dress!
Photographing her in this dress was so important to me and to Sofia and her mom. Unfortunately she wasn’t able to have a traditional Quinceñera because of Covid-19 and this was a way to turn her Quince into a special and memorable experience. She looks like royalty and I so loved being able to take this images of her for such a special occasion.
We moved the photoshoot party into the downtown Sacramento area. I chose this fun spot next to a state building because I thought they would compliment this funky more editorial look we came up with during Sofia’s fashion consult. The confidence pouring from these images always puts a huge smile on my face! We had so much fun with this look and this location. fun fact about these neon blue combat boots: they are super lightweight which makes them great shoes to leap, jump, and bend in!
Our final look of the day was one of my favorites to shoot because of how beautiful Sofia was and how wonderful she incorporated he surroundings into each shot. She wanted to show off her culture, and what is more beautiful than that?
We went to one of my favorite spots in Midtown Sacramento and started at the cactus garden. She’s so powerful and confident in these! We all loved the way the forest green tulle skirt moved and she played a lot with its versatility to create gorgeous shapes and silhouettes. She mentioned a Frida Kahlo inspired look, so I made this colorful flower crown to really complete the look.
As I mentioned before, Sofía is a dancer, an accomplished dancer including being on pointe in ballet. We took a few with her pointe shoes on amongst some native flowers. When Heather put the flower crown on Sofía the look became even more special! I just love the collage of images below. Had to put the goofy side of Sofía on display in the center! Her silly side made this shoot go by very quickly!! We were laughing the whole way through her photo session!
I just had to sneak in this final image because, HELLO, its great! Just like the news I got from Sofia when she shared on IG she went to Drag-con 2022 and danced IN FRONT OF RU PAUL!! She didn’t know she was dancing for her life until after she got off stage and someone showed her the video. Congrats girl!
Can’t wait to schedule another photoshoot with you! That goes for all of you! My books are open for fall for ‘23 seniors and teens alike!
xoxo
